Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays where you want to do something for your love, but going out can be crazy with getting a reservation and paying triple for dinner, we paid over $600 on a meal once for V day, and getting just another present can seem boring.
Why not do something fun for your SO that can be interactive, thoughtful and affordable.
I have done a scavenger hunt a total of three times now. Maybe I shouldn’t say that, but each time I customized it for the boyfriend who I was with at the time. They weren’t all for Valentine’s Day, I did it for Dave’s first birthday that we celebrated together and he loved it.
I love this idea because you can go all out or you can keep it affordable. Either way, it will be fun for all parties involved!
The Affordable Scavenger Hunt
Okay first off, whether you’re doing a low key scavenger hunt or going big, you have to be as detailed as possible for everyone involved especially your SO ladies, because let’s face it, sometimes guys can be slow. 😉
The first time I did the scavenger hunt was right after college and I had no money. I can’t remember what holiday it was for, but basically, I made him go to all his favorite places.
I started by leaving a note on his car so he saw it at lunch during work. From there he went to his favorite coffee shop where one of the barista’s was in on it and handed him the next clue where he then went to get his car washed and finally to my apartment where I made, yes made, his dinner. It was fun, exciting and affordable and it was something we both will remember!
A Little Bit Extra
As I got older and started to make more money, I put a little more into the scavenger hunt and where Dave picked up his clues. I started by texting him and told him he had to pick up his first clue from the guard at our guard gate of our gated community. From there he went to the local Starbucks where again a barista was involved and from there he was led to a day spa to get a massage. Finally, in the spa locker, was his last clue to meet me at Flemings for a birthday dinner where I also had a birthday cake with the Game of Thrones logo on it! I think he was shocked at how much effort I put into the whole thing and definitely still talks about the Game of Thrones cake!
So whether you’re doing a scavenger hunt or making a homemade Valentine’s card, doing something for your love always is more special when it comes from the heart! Happy Valentine’s Day!
