Everyone has something on their body that they don’t like or wish they could change. Maybe it is having curly hair and dreaming of having straight hair or maybe it’s being taller when you don’t quite reach 5’4.
For me, it’s my eyebrows. I feel like they’re always a different shape, grow in weird directions and must be penciled in at 5:30 am when I teach regardless how dark it is outside.
I’ve always hated them and been so envious of any girls who had gorgeous perfectly shaped brows, until now.
Last year when Microblading became popular I seriously thought about doing it. But because of some bad outcomes I saw, some looked like a black sharpie was the tool used, and the pain, I put it out of my mind.
Fast forward a year later and I started seeing more and more people who got their eyebrows Microbladed and they looked amazing!
As a blogger you are offered free this and free that all the time, including free Microblading. But when it comes to my face, I’m not doing anything unless it’s been highly recommended to me first. It’s your face and you only have one.
Enter Shelly Hass. Shelly came highly recommended to me by a friend who also had her brows done and they looked natural and AMAZING!!
Since Shelly was newer to the Microblading game and joining a salon in Corona Del Mar, she wanted to get the word out there and use bloggers to do it.
I immediately thought, “this is my chance to finally have amazing eyebrows!” She booked me for a service along with some of the other SoCal Blogger Babes. Since I was such a chicken, I booked my appointment after the other girls.
One by one they got their eyebrows done and they all looked gorgeous! Perfect shape and color and not one girl said it’s hurt!
Leading up to my appointment, Shelly was very hands on. Telling me what to do and what not to do, making it easy for my nerves to be calmed:
Don’t pluck or wax your eyebrows 3 days prior to your appointment
Don’t drink alcohol within 24hours of your appointment
Don’t take any blood thinners within 24 hours of your appointment
Don’t have any caffeine within 24 hours of your appointment
Avoid tanning 30 days prior to your appointment
When I got to my appointment, I was excited and nervous at the same time. I had no idea what to expect and I was worried that I would hate my eyebrows even more than before.
Shelly started by “mapping” out my new shape. They call it mapping because after it’s done, your face looks like a map with lines and zig zags. It’s really a true science and something that Shelly took a long time doing. I truly appreciate the time and patience she had with my “challenging” brows.
The next step was picking the color, something that I was nervous about too. What if it was too dark? Or too light? Shelly mixed colors until she found the perfect color to match my hair and skin tone.
After numbing the area for 30 minutes Shelly started the Microblading process. The first question I got after from people was, “did it hurt?” I can say 100% that I felt no pain at all. However, there is a scraping sound that occurs, which doesn’t bother me, but may bother other people.
After about 3.5 hours, mine took longer than usual, shelly cleaned them up with tweezing around the area and handed me a mirror.
I was terrified to look as I was expecting jet black caterpillar shapes on my face.
In reality, my eyebrows looked awesome in every way and I couldn’t stop smiling.
She then handed me a little bag with some aftercare items and gave me detailed instructions. I soon realized this last part was out of the ordinary.
After doing some Instastories for my followers about my experience, a lot of people reached out with horror stories, saying they couldn’t leave their house after their service for three days etc.
I was shocked with their responses because my eyebrows looked flawless and I didn’t experience any of the flakiness or my eyebrows turning dark like some other people told me theirs did. Of course, everyone is different.
Post appointment Don’ts:
Don’t go in the sun
Don’t go swimming
Avoid excessive sweating
Wash the area gently (with the aftercare soap that Shelly provides) but don’t use a terry cloth towel to dry. Use a piece of toilet paper instead
Don’t apply any makeup on around the area
Don’t scratch. Tap the area instead if you have an itch.
It’s been three weeks now since my appointment and I’m still in love with them. At the six week mark, I’ll return to see Shelly for touchups, where she’ll fill in any areas that need attention.
If you’re in Orange County you must visit Shelly for your brows at Bee Sugared Salon in Newport Beach. She is not only detail oriented and loves what she does, but also super sweet and fun to talk to.
